Battle of Belleau Woods--After the shell that got Carl Emmons
A rubble-filled street with a man’s leg. This happened on 10 June, 1918, according to the diary of E.G. Leaf: “Emmons (Acting First Sergeant) was wounded today. A piece of shrapnel went through his helmet; nothing serious, however.” So the leg in the photo is evidently not Emmons’.
