Battle of Belleau Woods--Roy Needham first man wounded
A man standing jauntily in front of an ambulance, holding his helmet, with a blood-stained bandage around his head. This happened on 6 June, 1918, according to the diary of E.G. Leaf: “Roy Needham, the first of our men wounded, a piece of shrapnel pierced his helmet and inflicted a scalp wound. But it was slight.”
